Clearway Speaker Profile

Darren de Klerk is Deputy Group Manager and Director Infrastructure Delivery at Hastings District Council, responsible for leading the delivery of some of Hawke's Bay's largest transport, water, recovery and community infrastructure programmes, an over $200m per annum capital programme. 

Known for his collaborative approach to infrastructure delivery, Darren has worked across local government, consulting, contracting and asset management, with a particular focus on bringing organisations together around shared outcomes. In recent years he has helped lead the delivery of Cyclone Gabrielle recovery projects while fostering stronger regional collaboration between councils, utility providers, contractors and consultants. 

Darren is Vice President of Āpōpō and is passionate about improving the way infrastructure systems function across New Zealand. He believes the greatest opportunities facing the sector lie not only in better assets, but in better collaboration, planning and decision-making across the entire infrastructure lifecycle.
